Innovative training initiative wins praise and regional accolade

PARAGON Toolmaking’s successful four-year apprenticeship programme has been recognised for its innovation by winning a distinguished award.

The importance of our team’s traditional knowledge and skills impressed the judges to win the Training and Development award at the Hull Live Business Awards 2021.

Sponsored by East Riding College, the Award acknowledged the key role our apprenticeship plays in giving our team the skills needed to design and manufacture complex press tools.

More than 60 per cent of our staff have trained through apprenticeships, with Heta the training partner.

General manager Kevin Batty was proud to receive the accolade from Neil Waterhouse, vice principal of East Riding College.

Reflecting on the success, Mr Batty said: “The ability to bring on your own employees is absolutely essential for businesses like ours.

“We rely on people, not our equipment or machinery, it is the people who are most important. A lot of businesses seem to forget the importance of people and the skills that are there.

“The last year has been tough for us and everyone, but we’re seeing it get better and I’m really positive UK manufacturing will see a good strong return.”
