This was without doubt our biggest awards success as we beat off competition from across the UK engineering and manufacturing sectors to claim a national award. The award was aimed to recognise the huge importance of manufacturing businesses ensuring their workforces are equipped with the skills and expertise required to compete in rapidly changing world, and against a backdrop of accelerating technological change. To win at an event full of some of the country’s leading engineering and manufacturing businesses was a huge honour.
Our success in being shortlisted for this award brought recognition for the modern, digital engineering expertise within our business. It also recognised our constant investment into the latest technology to ensure we stay at the forefront of digital engineering methods and remain able to supply bespoke tooling solutions to many of the world’s leading manufacturers and first-tier suppliers. It also recognised our use of the most advanced manufacturing technology, and how our tools are frequently designed to suit any automation process used by customers.
This prestigious manufacturing awards event celebrates world-class companies based in Yorkshire and the Humber and the products they make in Yorkshire and sell across the world. The award recognised our successful apprenticeships programme, run in conjunction with Humberside Engineering Training Association (HETA), under which we provide four-year apprenticeships, enabling young people to learn whilst working under experienced mentors at our business.
Our commitment to in-house training again brought external recognition and profile, this time at the Hull Live Business Awards, one of the biggest business events in the region. A judging panel of leading and respected local business figures selected us as winners having been impressed by our track-record of training our workforce. Of particular note was the fact that 60 per cent of our team had progressed through apprenticeships, including all of the senior management.
We were thrilled when team member Jay Malone was shortlisted for this award, as the former Howden High School pupil has continued a family tradition, given his father and grandfather both worked in engineering, in local shipyards. Jay, who was 19 at the time, was selected in recognition of the excellent contribution he had made to the business, and for showing great future potential, which he has fulfilled by since completing his apprenticeship and becoming part of our toolmaking team.

The die ran extremely well at 50 parts per minute with good quality. We have now commissioned the tool ready for production. The toolmakers deserve a pat on the back.
Paul, New Tooling Engineer – Automotive – Sunderland
Our customer has laid down three sets of tooling, one in Taiwan, one in the UK and one with Paragon Toolmaking. The parts off the Paragon tool are the best by far.
